Producer of the Agricultural Cooperative of Zakros. No matter where he sets foot in Zakros, he listens to the past and realizes the significance of his land.
Giannis fills his day with many agricultural activities, but olive trees and oil are of the greatest importance to him. He has been attached to them throughout his whole life and, at the age of 49, he keeps making a living through them, and would not like things to change in any way. He loves his place and wherever he goes, he listens to its past and senses its importance. This feeling is what compels him to continue to fight and create.
He contemplates about his own personal history, but also the one beyond him, he thinks about his people and his strength multiplies.
He respects nature and is mindful of its pace. He knows that nature never hurries, yet everything is always on time. He observes the phenomena and knows the signs of the seasons and weather, which he waits for, to make sure everything is going as expected. His experiences from working the land, in the cold and under the rain, make him feel alive, make him feel that he is giving his own, human fight for survival. As a man with a great sense of duty and dignity, he cannot bear injustice. “Through effort and hard work, even if you go beyond yourself, even if you reach the boundaries of poverty, you can get what you want in life”, he states.
