A harvest of Awards 2024 | ZAKROS

Extremelly important was the Agricultural Cooperative of Zakros winning the silver award for the first time in the Amsterdam International Olive Oil Competition (AMSTERDAM IOOC 2024), as it brings forth the constantly rising interest in extra virgin olive oil of quality, in emerging consumer markets as the Netherlands. Of equal importance, is the silver award in the Mediterranean Taste Awards 2024 (MTA 2024), that focuses on highlighting the excellent and authentic products of the Mediterranean.

The above distinctions also include the placement of our extra virgin olive oil in the Elite Olive Oils – Global League 2024 and Global Olive Oil Stars 2024 lists, that rank us among the best olive oils in the world.

The above contests, are highly prestigious events with many years of experience and the participation of producers from all the olive producing regions of the world. Their judging panels constitute of tasters, catering experts, chemists, entrepreneurs, agri-food scientists, all specialized and experienced professionals in the production, marketing and evaluation of olive oil.

The continuous distinctions of the product prove the consistent quality of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Sitia Lasithiou Kritis, extra virgin olive oil, produced in the Agricultural Cooperative of Zakros.

The fruity ADELΦOS, of medium intensity, moderately spicy and bitter, with the delicate aromas of Zakros with notes of freshly cut grass, olive leaves, herbs, flowers and nuts, is the fraternal friend of every cooking enthusiast. At the same time, thanks to its excellent nutritional characteristics, it is also the friend of our body, so it is preferred by consumers in Greece and abroad, where it is exported to 12 countries.

Over 500 members of the Agricultural Cooperative of Zakros with their families, cultivate olives of the Koroneiki variety within the Sitia Geopark, with respect for the environment and application of a quality agricultural production model with the support of science. Their dedicated expertise in olive cultivation has made Zakros an "Olive Oil Politeia", a community with continuous development of knowledge and cooperation.

Since its birth in 1936, the Cooperative has been actively interacting with the community. The like-mindedness of the producers, as well as the long-term friendships with the visitors of Zakros and consumers of its olive oil from various countries, inspired the design of the "ADELFOS" series with the Minoan dolphins theme.

The dolphin, is a timeless symbol of friendship, joy and healing, also of the sunny Mediterranean, the Greek light and the seafaring voyages of trade and pleasure that connect good food with the whole world, from ancient times to the present day.
